The Life Between the Big Moments
Day 191 – June 2, 2026
I think social media accidentally convinced an entire generation that life happens in highlights. The trip.
The engagement. The promotion. The transformation. The big announcement. The dramatic reveal. The thing worth posting.
But the older I get, the more suspicious I become of big moments. Not because they aren’t important. Because they’re rare. And if you’re not careful, you’ll spend your whole life waiting for them. Waiting to feel alive. Waiting to feel proud. Waiting to feel complete. Waiting to feel like the story has finally started.
Meanwhile the actual story is happening on a random Tuesday while you’re trying to remember why you walked into the kitchen. That’s the scam. The life isn’t the highlight reel. The life is the space between them.
The coffee. The dog walk. The conversation. The terrible date. The great date. The afternoon you laughed harder than expected. The book that found you at the right time. The ordinary moments that quietly become part of who you are.
Nobody posts those.
But those are the things that build a life. And honestly? I think we’re starving for permission to care about them again. Because not every season needs to be transformative. Not every chapter needs to be legendary. Not every year needs to be your year.
Sometimes you’re just living. Sometimes you’re just becoming the person who will eventually look back and realize those ordinary days were doing much more work than they appeared to be doing at the time.
That’s beautiful. And a little annoying.
Because I’d love a giant sign from the universe saying, Congratulations. This random Tuesday is secretly important. Instead, we get hindsight. Rude.
Roger, naturally, believes every day is important. Mostly because every day contains Roger. The confidence is admirable. Honestly, he might be onto something.
Chaos in one hand. Grace in the other.
And me, learning that the life I keep looking for might be the one I’m already living.
