I Want to Build the Room
Day 215 – June 26, 2026
I have been thinking a lot about rooms lately. Who gets invited into them. Who controls them. Who feels comfortable once they are there. Who is expected to prove they belong. Who gets to speak. Who gets ignored.
Maybe I am thinking about this because Wild Poise is starting to feel less like a personal project and more like a place. That is different. A project belongs to one person. A place can hold people. I like that idea.
I think I want to build the room.
Not some exclusive little cool kids room where everyone has perfect hair and says “curated” too often. I mean a room where interesting people can bring interesting things. Writing. Photography. Ideas. Stories. Questions. Opinions. Beauty. Mess. Humor.
Work that does not fit neatly into whatever category the internet currently finds easiest to monetize.
There are so many talented people whose work never gets seen because they do not know the right person, live in the right city, have the right following, or understand how to make themselves algorithmically irresistible.
That bothers me.
Not because I think Wild Poise is suddenly going to solve the internet. Please. But because I know what it feels like to wonder whether anybody will ever notice what you can do. Then somebody does.
That matters. A lot.
Maybe part of building something is eventually turning around and making room behind you. I like that better than the endless competition model. There is enough of that already. Everybody climbing. Everybody branding. Everybody performing expertise. Everybody trying to become impossible to ignore.
Exhausting.
I would rather build something people want to walk toward. That feels more interesting to me. A place with a point of view. A place with taste. A place with humor. A place where good work matters more than follower count. A place that can hold contradiction. A place that does not demand perfection before entry.
That is a much bigger idea than where Wild Poise started.
Which is exciting. And terrifying. Because once you imagine something bigger, you inherit bigger questions. How do you build it? How do you pay for it? Who belongs? What does the brand become? What stays personal? What grows beyond you? How do you protect what made it good while letting it become more?
I do not know yet.
That is fine.
I am beginning to understand that not knowing is not a reason to stop. It is usually just the beginning of the work. So I am paying attention. To people. To ideas. To possibilities. To what Wild Poise feels like now. To what it might want to become.
Maybe this is the first time I have seriously thought about building something that could hold more than just me. That feels important. Because this journal began as a place to survive. The site became a place to create. Maybe the next version becomes a place to gather.
I like that progression. It feels earned. Not finished. Just earned.
Chaos in one hand. Grace in the other.
And maybe, finally, a room worth building.
