The Year Didn\u2019t Reset<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Day 40 – January 2, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So apparently the calendar changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone on the internet is talking about fresh starts and reinvention like January came with a personality upgrade. Meanwhile my nervous system is still buffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healing doesn\u2019t follow calendars. Trauma doesn\u2019t politely disappear when the year changes. The same memories exist today that existed last week. The same fears. The same complicated feelings about safety and trust and how quickly a person\u2019s life can fracture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But something else exists too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life keeps moving forward whether we feel ready or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today felt like a quiet continuation of the work I\u2019ve already been doing. Coffee. Writing. Walking Roger around the block while he conducted extremely serious investigations into neighborhood trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a few minutes during that walk I noticed something interesting happening inside me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My brain wasn\u2019t replaying the past. It wasn\u2019t analyzing the future either. It was just present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cold air in my lungs. Roger walking beside me like the neighborhood mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moments like that feel small, but they\u2019re actually huge. They\u2019re proof that my mind can still exist outside the orbit of what happened to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not constantly. Not permanently yet. But occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And occasionally is a start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internet wants dramatic reinvention stories this time of year. But I think the real work of rebuilding a life happens much more quietly than that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It happens in small moments where you realize you\u2019re still capable of living inside the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even after the past tried to take over everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaos in one hand. Grace in the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And another ordinary day proving that life keeps going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
