They\u2019re Looking at the Wrong Things<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Day 149 – April 21, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some days I look around and think people are looking at the wrong things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wrong bodies. The wrong fears. The wrong stories. The wrong performance of danger. The wrong version of what deserves attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s like staring directly at smoke and still somehow finding a way to debate whether the woman coughing belongs in the room. That\u2019s what it feels like, anyway. And I don\u2019t think I\u2019m wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because there is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from living a real life while the world keeps flattening certain lives into symbols, projections, anxieties, and half baked opinions from people who have never had to carry the actual weight of what they\u2019re talking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That gets old. Fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because while everyone else is busy circling the surface, some of us are over here actually living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paying rent. Walking our dogs. Loving our people. Trying to survive. Trying to be beautiful. Trying to be ordinary. Trying to have futures. Trying to tell the truth about pain in a world that may or may not hear us at full volume depending on how legible, likable, or convenient we seem that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the gap between real life and the way people talk about it makes me want to scream sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because I know what I look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know how I move through the world. I know there are days I probably look exactly like the kind of beautiful, poised, self possessed woman people assume was always allowed to be here. I know confidence lands. I know presentation does a lot of talking before I ever open my mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I also know what\u2019s under that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work. The becoming. The grief. The fear. The joy. The violence. The fight it took to arrive here and still keep arriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the part people don\u2019t see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or maybe they do see it in flashes and then look away because the whole truth asks more of them than the surface does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because I am not an idea. I am not a talking point. I am not a category people get to project onto and then walk away from feeling clever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A real one. A whole one. A hurt one, yes. A beautiful one. A difficult one, if necessary. A woman whose life and pain should matter without requiring the world to first decide whether I am easy enough to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That should not be radical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yet here we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some days I think what hurts most is not even open cruelty. At least cruelty is honest in its own stupid, ugly way. What hurts more is the distance. The detachment. The way people can stand so far from someone else\u2019s reality and still speak with total authority about what they think they see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That kind of distance does damage too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The slow damage of not being recognized as fully real. The slow damage of being watched instead of known. The slow damage of being looked at through fear, confusion, or projection instead of being met as a living person with an actual body, actual history, actual pain, and actual stakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am tired of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I know I\u2019m not alone in that exhaustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roger, meanwhile, remains gloriously unconcerned with any of this and fully committed to a personal platform centered around neighborhood security, blanket access, and a deeply bipartisan belief that snacks are a basic right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly? The strongest candidate we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something deeply comforting about being loved by a creature who never once got confused about who I am. No debate. No angle. No weird little social performance of understanding. Just certainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That kind of certainty is rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I think that\u2019s what I keep coming back to. The difference between being looked at and being known. Between being interpreted and being understood. Between being turned into something convenient for other people and being allowed to remain fully, inconveniently, gorgeously real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do not want to be watched. I do not want to be reduced. I do not want to be turned into somebody else\u2019s symbol when I am the one carrying the actual life. I want people to pay attention to what matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To harm. To truth. To women in pain. To the strange violence of being misunderstood while still expected to keep going beautifully. To the fact that some of us are living entire realities beneath the surface people think they\u2019ve already figured out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is where the truth is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaos in one hand. Grace in the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And me, still standing here while people look at the wrong things, refusing to become one of them<\/p>\n\n\n\n
